Wes Smith

Wes Smith, also known as Wazzoo the General, is a Canadian musician, bassist, and singer from Montreal, Quebec. He is a member of the One Love Project and has played with various bands, including One Love Band, Dave Segreti Band (DSB), Dance Deluxe, Peppers of Funk, and Forever Stones. In 2015, he co-founded OLP Productions with Dano Peace and David Segreti.

Wes’s musical journey began in the youth choir at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson, Quebec. His passion for music has been a constant throughout his life, leading him to pursue a career in music and share his love for it with others. He entered the Quebec music scene in the early 2000s after years of self-teaching on the bass. He balanced his musical pursuits with a successful collegiate football career (QB for St. Mary’s Huskies and Bishop’s Gaiters), a stint as a national sailing athlete and coach (ACY Coach of the Year 1999), and as Vice President of Sales, Corporate Partnerships, and Community Affairs for the Montreal Alouettes from 2002 to 2011, during which he achieved notable success, including three Grey Cup championships and being recognized as the top sponsorship sales director in the CFL.

Wes has developed a unique and dynamic sound by blending styles such as reggae, hard rock, funk, blues, R&B, jazz, soul, and hip hop. His energetic and rhythmic prowess shines through in his performances with the One Love Band. Throughout his career, Wes has collaborated with numerous artists in live performances and studio productions, including Sarah Coyle (Much Williams), Marty Desjardins, the Maui Effect, The Music Institute, Dave and Dan Lima, Tim Walsh, Magnum Loving', King Without a Crown, Stir it Up, Dano Peace, Dave Segreti, the Hitmen, Les Soul Shakers, and Punky Reggae.

Wes has had the privilege of supporting prominent international reggae stars in Montreal, such as Tekeyce-Ti and the Reggae Funkers, Saboo & the Boom Gaia Band with H.O Soul and Apostrophe, and more recently sharing the stage with Montreal reggae icons Jah Cutta, Mellow G, Prophecy Isis, Shakky Alleyne, Dany Rebel, and Mathieu La Vie.

His unique blend of energy, creativity, and versatility across multiple music styles, coupled with his drive to elevate group performances, makes Wes an ideal collaborator on stage and in the studio. As the One Love Project approaches its 10th anniversary in 2025, having played over 2000 concerts, Wes looks forward to continuing to share his passion for music and bass through live performances, touring globally, and recording with the One Love Band and other OLP Productions groups. The One Love Project promotes the virtues of Peace, Love, and Unity to fans across the continent and the world.

Wes uses the following equipment for live and studio performances:

  • Mesa Carbine 6/9 amplifiers

  • Ampeg SVT 3 and 4 amplifiers
