
Alec McElcheran
Bass player, guitarist, singer, songwriter, Alec McElcheran has been performing since the late 1980s, and has played with many well-known acts in the Canadian blues scene. Alec has played with, among others, The Paul DesLauriers Band, Paul Deslautiers & Annika Chambers, Angel Forrest, Dawn Tyler Watson, Shakura S’aida, Steve Strongman, Steve Hill, Guy Belanger, Jim Zeller, Carl Tremblay, Rob Lutes, Florence K, Anik Jean, Jo Hell, Adam Karch, Jean Millaire, Layla Zoe, CerAmony, Dano Peace & The One Love Project, David Segreti Band, Steve Rowe, Marc Parent & Wang Dang Doodle, The Blushing Brides, the list goes on. He also performs with his own trio The Associates with Alan Springer and Dan Legault.
With these acts Alec has played around Canada from Lunenburg to Iqaluit to Nanaimo, around the world from the US and Mexico to the UK, France and Germany to Morroco to Japan, playing festivals including the Montréal Jazz Festival, Tremblant Blues Festival, Ottawa Blues Festival, The Isle Of Wight, Sierre Blues Festival, the Strawberry Festival in California, etc. Alec has played in bands that opened for the Rolling Stones, April Wine, Pat Benatar, Weezer, A Simple Plan, Billy Talent, Robert Charlebois, Jeff Healy, Claude Dubois, Honeymoon Suite, Eric Gale, and others. With The Paul Deslauriers Band alec played Jon Lord's (Deep Purple) Concerto For Group And Orchestra with l'Orchestre Symphonic de Quebec and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden).
Alec has contributed songs to albums by Bob Walsh, Guy Belanger, Adam Karch, Kenny Dupree, Steve Rowe, and Eric Farran. He has co-written with Paul DesLauriers, Steve Rowe, Florence K, Jim Zeller, and Anik Jean. He has recorded with several well-known artists including Angel Forrest, Paul Deslauriers Band, Paul Deslauiers & Annika Chambers, Guy Belanger, Jean Leloup, Anik Jean, Florence K, Lydia & Sebastien, and Fred Lebel & Hard Times. He has recorded 3 CDs of original material, one as The Alec McElcheran Trio, one with The Associates, and one during the Covid lockdown with Dan Legault.
